Project Information
A new state-of-the-art clinical services building, named Kangkanthi, opened its doors in July, 2024. This modern facility boasts a larger emergency department, increased intensive care capacity, new operating theatres and dedicated rehabilitation services. The redevelopment aims to enhance healthcare delivery in Adelaide’s western suburbs, providing improved patient care and a better working environment for staff.
Unique elements:
The new Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide is a testament to modern healthcare architecture. Unique construction elements include its innovative design emphasizing natural light and patient wellbeing, incorporating green spaces and outdoor areas within the hospital environment. The building’s structure is designed to be highly adaptable, accommodating future technological advancements and healthcare needs. Additionally, sustainable building practices and materials have been prioritized to minimize the hospital’s environmental impact.
Solution:
The new QEH utilised the SystemARDEX Flooring & Waterproofing Solutions under 12,000m2 of vinyl flooring for efficient and durable floor preparation, incorporating market leading ARDEX moisture barrier application, engineered screeds, and waterproofing to all wet areas. ARDEX K 120, ARDEX K 220, ARDEX K 12, and ARDEX K 15 were used for various leveling and smoothing requirements to create a uniform base and solid foundation. ARDEX WPM 300 provided full moisture barrier protection for all the ARDEX Floor Levellers & ARDEX A 48 engineered screed. The ARDEX WPM 155 Rapid Plus membrane and ARDEX Feather Finish solution were used to create a smooth under vinyl membrane solution in all wet areas. All prepared surfaces were ready to receive vinyl floor coverings, ensuring a hygienic and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients and staff for many years to come.
ARDEX Australia collaborated closely with Riga Floors and Built Evirons at various stages of the project to deliver tailored solutions and continuous onsite support.
