This recommendation relates to tiling on internal sand and cement based topping screeds. These screeds are typically in internal wet areas but can be used anywhere there is a structurally sound substrate to support the weight of the applied screed. Download

Internal Dry Area Tiling on Compressed Fibre Cement sheeted floors

Tiling on internal floors composed of standard compressed fibre cement (e.g. Hardipanel) is similar to tiling onto prepared concrete. The compressed fibre cement (CFC) sheets must be installed in accordance with the sheet manufacturer’s instructions. This will include bonding of the sheet edges together with epoxy adhesives and screwing the sheets to the supporting frame. The floor must be structurally sound and composed of sheets at least 15mm thick. The CFC sheets shall not be sealed or primed prior to this installation. Download

Scope This recommendation relates to tiling over wire heating elements that have been placed on the surface of internal concrete floors. These elements may be single wires that are taped to the floor in a prescribed pattern, or wires fixed into a mesh carrier at set intervals or wires embedded in mats. This recommendation does not include hot water piping laid over the concrete substrate. Download

Standard fibre cement sheeting for tiling is normally finished with a smooth matt unsealed surface. The fibre cement wall sheeting must be confirmed by the manufacturer as being suitable for the adhesive fixing of tile finishes. Download

This recommendation is regarding the application of Ardex Levelling cements to prepare internal wet areas for the installation of vinyl wall & floor coverings. The substrates shall include reinforced concrete floors with either sheet wall linings or rendered masonry walls. The Ardex Levelling systems provide high strength, dry substrates much faster than traditional cementitious toppings and allow the installation of the impervious wall & floor coverings with minimal delay. However these specialty levelling cements must be covered and protected from water penetration by a suitable membrane applied directly under the vinyl finishes. Download

Levelling Internal Dry Floors- Old Concrete

This recommendation is regarding the levelling of internal dry area floors prior to the installation of most types of floor finishes. It applies to aged concrete substrates but does not apply to internal wet areas. The concrete must be structurally sound (at least 20MPa compressive strength and at least 1.5MPa tensile strength). All remedial work to repair corroded reinforcement steel shall be completed prior to levelling. Download

Approved Base Screeds for Ardex Levelling Cements Internal & External

Ardex Levelling cements are designed to be used mostly as thin (<30mm thick) layer toppings to internal floors prior to the installation of floor coverings such as resilient floor finishes (e.g. vinyl or linoleum), carpet or tiles. For applications where the setdowns are greater than the thickness range for the nominated levelling cements, an approved base screed is recommended that is compatible with the levelling cements. This recommendation is regarding the levelling of standard CFC (Compressed Fibre Sheet) internal flooring to receive resilient (e.g. vinyl) floor coverings where the sheeting is joined together using an approved (e.g. Ardex WPM501) two part epoxy adhesive. Levelling Over Heated Internal Floor Slabs

This recommendation is regarding the levelling and smoothing of concrete floors where electrical heating elements are included in the concrete substrate. The concrete floors must be structurally sound and comply with the recommendations of AS1884-2012 (i.e. at least 20MPa compressive strength and at least 1.5MPa surface tensile strength). The levelling cements may be covered with a variety of floor coverings such as resilient (e.g. vinyl or linoleum), carpet or all types of tile (e.g. ceramic, porcelain or natural stone). This recommendation is regarding the levelling/smoothing over internal concrete floors to cover the electrical heating elements (mats or cables) laid over the floor surfaces prior to the installation of the floor finishes. This recommendation is regarding the levelling and smoothing of engineered sheet timber internal flooring such as plywood and particleboard prior to the installation of resilient floor coverings, carpet, hard floor coverings (i.e. ceramic & porcelain tiles) and floating floors. It does not apply to substrates composed of strip timber flooring or parquetry. In addition, the applications include smoothing a sheet timber floor prior to the installation of fibre cement sheet, hardboard or MDF underlay sheets as per Ardex Technical Bulletin TB015. Download

Levelling Internal Floors constructed from James Hardie Scyon™ Secura™ Sheeting

This recommendation is based upon ARDEX Technical Bulletin TB016 where mesh reinforcement is used with levelling underlayments for the installation of resilient (e.g. Vinyl or Linoleum) floor finishes and/or carpet over T&G timber flooring. It applies only to installations of the James Hardie Scyon™ Secura™ 22mm floor sheeting to dry internal floors. As the Scyon™ floor sheeting is not bonded together and may include flexible sealants in the sheet end joints and no sealant in the sheet side joints; any cracking of the relatively rigid levelling underlayment is not included in the underlayment product warranty. This recommendation is regarding the levelling externally over applied topping screeds on concrete substrates. AS1884-2012 requires topping screeds to achieve at least 20MPa compressive strength and at least 1.5MPa surface tensile strength hence traditional sand/cement toppings used for tile finishes are not acceptable as they do not achieve these performances. Under-Tile Leveller

While hard floor finishes may be adhesive-fixed to a number of Ardex floor levelling cements, this system is specifically designed to level and smooth uneven concrete substrates particularly for the installation of large format ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tiles internally and externally. This ensures the tiles can be installed with an even layer of adhesive for maximum contact between the back of the tile and the substrate.
