Project Information
Wai Ariki, meaning ‘chiefly waters’, is a luxury hot springs and spa situated on the captivating shores of Lake Rotorua, New Zealand. Grounded in Māori and Ngāti Whakaue healing practices, this hot springs and spa offers guests a relaxing journey they will never forget.

Unique elements:
As Wai Ariki sits on an active geothermal field, a solution was required to prevent the sulphur gas and water beneath from corroding the concrete. The waterproofing membrane needed to be proven and tested to provide 100% airtight installation and long term structural protection.

Solution:
Over 7,000m2 of ARDEX WeldtecTM WPM 1500 Membrane was specified to provide the protective and waterproofing solution needed. The ARDEX WPM 1500 has been specifically tested for New Zealand’s geothermal regions and has been widely used throughout projects within the Rotorua region – giving confidence to RCG Architects this ARDEX Waterproofing Solution met the project’s strict geothermal and waterproofing requirements.

ARDEX also provided the internal Waterproofing and Tiling solution throughout 3,000m2 of floors, floor channels, swimming pools and shower areas which consisted of the ARDEX WPM 002 waterproofing membrane, ARDEX X 10 and ARDEX X 18 tile adhesives, and the market leading ARDEX EG 15 epoxy grout.

ARDEX New Zealand collaborated closely with all parties across the various stages of this project to deliver tailored solutions and service when required.
