Project details:
This multi-stage redevelopment involved a New Learning Hub at one of Australia’s leading grammar schools. The project consisted of a new five-storey building featuring new learning spaces, courtyards, outdoor learning environments, rooftop gardens, and a basement carpark. The design and layout provided this state-of-the-art educational facility with the flexibility to integrate the outdoor landscaped areas as part of the on-going educational program.
Challenge:
The multi-purpose outdoor areas required a membrane system with total membrane reliability as the construction was built over existing classrooms, the new carpark, and involved many integral waterproofing detailing requirements. The multi-purpose outdoor areas were then landscaped which included large garden beds, seating areas, granular backfill, along with paver-pad systems.
Solution:
ARDEX Weldtec Membrane and ARDEX Drainage System were specified for this 3,500m2 project – a complete systemARDEX specification. The ARDEX Root RepellTM waterproofing membrane was specified as the product offers heat-welded seams which guarantee a waterproof system with a consistent membrane thickness that allows for quick installation. The ARDEX Root RepellTM is specially formulated for the use in planter boxes, retaining walls, and green roofs as it contains a premium root inhibitor designed to repel root growth without killing the roots. The ARDEX DRS 50 DC drainage cell and ARDEX DRS 1 GT geotextile fabric was specified due to its high compressive strength and high flow capacity to complete the project’s waterproofing and drainage system requirements.
Overall, the ARDEX specification provided a system of high quality and totally compatible products supported by market leading technical service and field support.
