Project Information

Adelaide’s skyline has transformed with the addition of SAHMRI 2, a state-of-the-art medical research facility. Officially named the Australian Bragg Centre, this $500 million building will house Australia’s first proton therapy unit, offering advanced cancer treatment without the harmful side effects of traditional radiation. Beyond cancer care, SAHMRI 2 will also be home to the SAiGEN Cancer Institute, dedicated to groundbreaking research in genomics and immunotherapy. This impressive 12-storey building, including three underground levels, will solidify Adelaide’s position as a leading hub for medical innovation and patient care.

Unique elements:

Australian Bragg Centre is a testament to innovative construction. Its distinctive facade, characterized by a rhythmic interplay of glass and concrete, not only enhances aesthetics but also optimizes natural light and energy efficiency. The building’s core, a complex network of interconnected laboratories and research spaces, was constructed with meticulous precision to accommodate cutting-edge medical equipment and sterile environments. Notably, the integration of sustainable elements such as rainwater harvesting and green roofs showcases a commitment to environmental responsibility, setting a new benchmark for sustainable healthcare infrastructure.

Solution:

The new Australian Bragg Centre utilised the SystemARDEX Flooring & Waterproofing Solutions for both durable and long term floor preparation.  ARDEX A 48 Engineered Screed, ARDEX K 900 BF, and ARDEX WPM 155 Rapid Plus were utilised for all wet areas. ARDEX K 120 and ARDEX K 12 were used for leveling and smoothing the subfloors to create a strong uniform base. Where high moisture content was detected, ARDEX WPM 300 was used to ensure project remained on schedule and provided the moisture control for all the ARDEX floor levellers & screeds. ARDEX WPM 155 Rapid Plus and ARDEX Feather Finish were used to create a smooth under vinyl membrane solution in all wet areas. All prepared surfaces were ready to receive vinyl floor coverings, ensuring a hygienic and aesthetically pleasing environment for all staff and patients for many years to come..

ARDEX Australia collaborated closely with Corporate Design Floors and Lendlease at various stages of the project to deliver tailored solutions and continuous onsite support.
